Roboticists from Taldykorgan explore the Moon and Mars

21 August 2024 18:19

The prizes in the World Space Olympiad robotics engineering tournament were taken by students of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Taldykorgan. The guys invented robots to extract hydrogen on Mars and explore caves on the Moon. The large-scale championship brought together hundreds of the best young roboticists of the country in Almaty on the basis of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Alika Akylbekova, a 12th grade student, presented the "Elon Musk" robot project designed to extract hydrogen on Mars. According to the developer, in the future, when colonizing the Moon or Mars, the issue of resource extraction will be relevant. The most important resource is water, from which both oxygen and hydrogen can be obtained as fuel. This project is a robot excavator with a low gravity compensation system designed for autonomous work on the extraction of water ice, by digging up regolith and transporting ice for processing. The project took 1st place. Yedige Bolatbekuly and Ali Kasim, 12th grade students presented a robot for exploring caves also on the Moon and Mars. During the study, the orbital survey of the surface of Mars and the Moon showed the presence of vertical sinkholes, entrances to supposed lava caves, which provide great prospects for both colonization and the discovery of primitive life, since harmful factors in caves are strongly minimized. Our project is designed to explore these caves. The robot has a landing, mobile platform in order to get to the cave and a mobile robot with a complex of sensors," the young roboticists said. According to the results of the tournament, the project took 2nd place. The World Space Olympiad is an engineering competition with two categories CanSat and Inventors for students in grades 5-12 based on technical universities. In the CanSat category, students must build and launch rockets into the sky with an on-board computer, and in the Inventors category they present projects aimed at solving global problems on Earth. The aerospace industry is developing very actively. We want Kazakhstan to become a center of attraction for engineering enthusiasts from all over the world," the organizers stressed.
