Student Self-Governance
School self-governance is an organization that allows students to actively participate in decision-making and shaping the learning environment. It is based on principles of democracy, cooperation, equality, and the development of students’ leadership qualities and responsibilities. In the framework of school self-governance, students are members of the student council or similar organization, where they have the right to freely express their opinions, present their ideas, and propose changes to the school curriculum and rules. Members of the organization participate in planning events, organizing school projects, and discussing important issues related to education and the well-being of the school community.
Firstly, self-governing organizations enable students to freely express their thoughts and actively participate in decision-making regarding their education and learning environment. This helps create a unique and equitable school where each student has the opportunity to voice their opinion and be heard. Secondly, self-governance organizations contribute to the development of students’ leadership qualities and responsibilities. Membership in the school council helps students make decisions, resolve conflicts, and manage school projects. These skills will benefit students in life and help them become active citizens capable of making a positive contribution to society. Additionally, self-governance organizations can help effectively address problems facing the school. Students can propose innovative and creative ideas, and based on the experience and needs of the student council, changes are made to the curriculum and school rules.
