The Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Daryn" of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan annually organizes a national competition of scientific projects. This year, in the final stage of the competition, which was held in the city of Aktobe, 433 scientific projects were presented, with 577 students participating, defending their research in the field of natural and mathematical sciences.
Two projects by students from Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Semey city received prizes and won first place.
In the “Earth and Space Science” section, 11th-grade students Akylzhan Akhmetkali and Aikyn Bulegenov presented an innovative device, the “Orbital Guardian,” designed to clean the geostationary orbit from space debris. The development helps solve one of the most pressing problems of modern science, using aerogel, an ion engine, and special “traps” for debris, which allows for the effective cleaning of the orbit from contaminants of any size.
The device tracks space debris using stellar sensors and uses ion thrust to capture and transport it to processing stations. As part of the project, a model of the device was developed, the principle of operation of the ion engine was tested in school conditions, and a program for capturing debris using the YOLO neural network was created,” the young researchers shared the details of their project.
In the “Applied Mathematics” section, Erasyl Bazarbayev presented his online platform, “math12.studio,” designed to simplify the process of learning mathematics. According to the 11th grader, the platform is already used by 9,000 people, and it offers modern solutions for solving math problems quickly and for in-depth study of the subject.
Our young researchers, fascinated by the celestial and mathematical world, were prepared for the competition by teachers Anar Tayapbergenova, Nurgazy Tursyngazin, and Aziza Akhtanberdina.
