WALS-2024: Teachers presented their research at an the International Conference

The international conference WALS-2024 of the World Association of Lesson Studies has ended in Astana. Renowned global experts, scientists, practicing teachers, and doctoral students shared their experience on the topic “Lesson Study: Striving for better learning.”

A record number of abstracts – over 850 – were accepted for the global forum, with the majority prepared by Kazakhstani educators.

Teachers from the NIS of Kyzylorda presented nine research papers on the following topics: “Developing students’ thinking through the use of learning strategies”, “Developing students’ speaking skills through communicative teaching methods”, “Differentiated learning as a means of developing self-study skills”, “Using open-ended questions and communicative technologies for improving speaking skills in the English lessons”, “The effectiveness of CLIL technology in teaching Physics in English”, “Effective organization of students’ collaborative learning activities using level-based tasks”, “Developing information processing, analysis, and application skills using the flipped learning approach”, “Formulas for transforming the product of trigonometric functions into a sum: A joint approach to a mathematical solution”, and “Developing reasoning skills using problem-oriented learning strategies”.

The conference featured 10 symposia, poster sessions, masterclasses, and meetings in schools of Astana, all dedicated to the current priorities of modern pedagogy.

It is noteworthy that Kazakhstan took over the global WALS baton in November 2023 in the Netherlands. Previous conferences were held in Singapore, the United Kingdom, Japan, China, and other countries.
