On National Press Day, as part of the career guidance program, students of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Qyzylorda visited the T. Zhurgenov House of Creativity, where they explored the fundamentals of newspaper publishing and journalism.
During the visit, students learned about the work of "Syr Media" company, a regional media holding that brings together the newspapers "Syr Boiy", "Kyzylordinskiye Vesti", "Aqmeshit Zhastary", the city newspaper "Aqmeshit Aptalygy", seven district newspapers, as well as the news agency "Kyzylorda-News.kz". Mira Zhakibayeva, Editor at "Kyzylordinskiye Vesti", introduced students to the organization’s structure, the specifics of the journalism profession, and the role of mass media in shaping public opinion.
At the museum, students viewed early newspaper editions, archival materials, the first printing press, and other unique exhibits that illustrate the history and development of print media in the region.
In the modern printing house, students were shown the full production process – from content preparation to the moment a newspaper reaches its readers. The printing press is capable of producing up to 35,000 copies per hour. In addition to local newspapers, national and industry-specific publications are also printed there.
During a meeting with Botagoz Azharbayeva, Editor-in-Chief of "Kyzylordinskiye Vesti", and Marat Aralbayev, General Director of "Syr Media" company, participants discussed the history of regional journalism, its current state, as well as the challenges and career prospects of the journalism profession in the era of digital transformation.
The excursion helped students broaden their horizons, gain insight into the real work of the media industry, and take their first steps toward a conscious choice of future profession.
