The results of a study conducted by Akmaral Dauletiyarova, an English teacher at NIS Kyzylorda, have been published in one of the leading international journals – Compare: A Journal of Comparative and International Education, indexed in Scopus and ranked in the Q1 CiteScore Best Quartile.
The article, entitled “Gender and secondary school students’ engagement in STEM subjects: a qualitative study”, was co-authored with Professor Noreen Durrani from Nazarbayev University. The study examines the influence of gender factors on students’ engagement in STEM subjects and analyses how interest in these fields is shaped among secondary school learners.
The research is based on focus-group discussions with 12th-grade students. The collected data were interpreted using a post-structuralist approach, which made it possible to explore in detail the discursive mechanisms determining students’ participation in the STEM sphere and their impact on educational processes.
