In the city of Jining, China, at the 18th International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO), Nadira Atymtai, a student of NIS Kyzylorda (supervised by Mukhtar Abilmaev and Arai Nurbayeva), won 3rd place.
One of the world’s most prestigious scientific competitions for young geologists brought together 34 national teams from across the globe. Representing Kazakhstan at the Olympiad were only students of the Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools, who earned a total of seven medals.
Gold medals in the Earth Systems Project category were awarded to Alina Aitzhanova and Alnur Tursunhanov from NIS of Nurinsky district in Astana. Akzhol Bolat from NIS Taldykorgan became a bronze medalist in the same category. In the international team competition International Team Field Investigation, bronze medals were awarded to Alnur Tursunhanov, Akzhol Bolat, and Nadira Atymtai from NIS Kyzylorda.
In addition, Akzhol Bolat secured another bronze medal for the national team based on the results of theoretical and practical tests.
Over ten years of participation, Kazakhstan has won a total of 35 medals at the IESO. However, this year’s achievement set a new record. For NIS Kyzylorda, this is not the first success either: in 2021, students from the region had already won bronze at this Olympiad.
