From February 15 to 18, 2024, 12 students of grades 9-12 of NIS Pavlodar took part in the annual international conference "Model UN", which was held at Georgetown University, Doha, Qatar.
This year, 630 high school students from 15 countries, including Qatar, took part in the conference, the total number of schools is more than 50. NIS students from Pavlodar performed together with students from the best schools in Qatar, Turkey, China, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and other countries. In order to discuss current global issues and gain insight into the world of international politics, student participants ("delegates") had to study both the country they would represent at the conference and the specific topics to be discussed in their designated committee.
The general theme of the Model UN conference is "Global Security: Learning from the Past". Within the framework of the topic, the delegates covered the most pressing issues in international affairs, as well as came to solutions that change the world.
Students of NIS Pavlodar worked in the following committees: Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), Security Council (SC), Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), United Nations Development Program (UNDP) International Court of Justice (ICJ), World Health Organization (WHO), Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM), General Assembly (GA).
During the conference, our students represented Kazakhstan at a cultural evening where international schools exchanged traditions and culture of their countries.
Participation in international conferences of this format provides an opportunity for students to gain international experience, discuss global topics with delegations from different countries, broaden their horizons, replenish their portfolio, which will further assist in professional self-determination.
