SCHOOL HISTORY
On March 12, 2008, the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev initiated a unique project to create a network of Intellectual Schools in all regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan to select and train talented children capable of studying subjects in the field of natural sciences and mathematics.
According to the First President, intellectual schools should contribute to the development of the intellectual potential of the nation. School graduates make a significant contribution to improving the well-being and competitiveness of Kazakhstan.
Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Сhemical and Biological direction in Ust-Kamenogorsk was established at the initiative of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev within the framework of the state program “20 Intellectual schools” and started its work on September 13, 2010.
The school aims to introduce the concept of “lifelong learning” into society; this direction should become the personal motto of every Kazakhstani.
To achieve the objectives set by the First President, the Intellectual Schools are developing an innovative educational model that integrates the best Kazakh and international experience, which allowed 1,045 school graduates in the period from 2012-2024. to successfully enter and complete their studies at Nazarbayev University, at the best Kazakhstani and prestigious foreign institutions of higher education. These graduates will be in demand in the labor market, will actively cooperate in social and economic and political spheres, bring innovation to the local level, enhance the prestige and business reputation of Kazakhstan on the international stage.
Since its opening, the school has functioned under the leadership of three headmasters- Raisova Kulfarida Babagumarovna (2010-2014, 2016-2018), Ұzakbai Bauyrzhan Sailaubaiuly (2014-2016). From 2018 to the present time the school headmaster is Erniyazova Zhupat Oralovna.
On June 8, 2017, the school received an international accreditation following a visit by the Council of International Schools (CIS) expert group on Support and Evaluation of International Schools.
In August 2017, the school moved into a new building with a dormitory building for students from countryside. On April 26, 2019 the school confirmed its status as a School Accredited in the CIS. In In 2024, the school underwent re-accreditation internationally and received the status of a re-accredited school. Since May 2017, NIS Ust-Kamenogorsk has been a member of the UNESCO Club, and in 2024 the school has implemented an anti-bullying program KiVa, which aims to support the well-being of the school community.
