NIS Oskemen students took part in the annual debate tournament "Dostyq Debate Cup" in Almaty

In order to analyze and publicly discuss current problematic situations in Kazakhstani society, increase the social and creative activity of schoolchildren, and form mechanisms and ways to solve specific problems, the republican debate tournament “Dostyq Debate CUP II” was held on November 9-10 among schoolchildren of the republic.
The tournament was attended by 64 teams of schools from different regions of Kazakhstan, which were divided into Senior and Junior Leagues, skillfully demonstrating their creative and intellectual abilities. The debates were held on topics such as “Banning the production and consumption of meat”, “Important decisions about children’s health should be made by medical professionals and not by their parents”, “Education systems should over-inflate children’s academic self-perception (e.g. providing overwhelmingly positive feedback, avoiding fail grades, etc.)”, “South Africa’s rainbow nation narrative” and others. The organization of the tournament was entrusted to the main panel of judges, consisting of experienced debaters who have proven themselves as strong speakers and objective judges in the Student League, who also took part in the world Debate Student Tournament.
“Discussion occupies a special place in the comprehensive development of children and young people studying in secondary and higher educational institutions, their civic activity and intellectual search, the formation of correct political guidelines in society. Currently, much attention is paid to the modernization and development of discussion games by educational institutions. This tournament was very lively, it was evident that the participants were inspired and had a desire to win, and also had a desire to freely express their thoughts,” the tournament organizer, Duysek Tulbasy Nurlanuly, noted in his speech. According to the results of the republican debate tournament “Dostyq Debate CUP II”, NIS Oskemen students Aisha Tashkenova, Malika Safina and Samir Mussakhitov as part of the “Thunderbolts” team performed with dignity, defending the honor of our school and the region, winning 3 rounds out of four, thereby securing a place in the top four teams of the tournament. By the decision of the tournament organizers, the semi-final, to which our students ought to participate in, there was decided to hold only the final for the best two teams, and the remaining two teams (including our students) were declared as semi-finalists. All participants of the debate tournament were presented with letters of gratitude, and the best judges and best speakers of the tournament were awarded diplomas, and the winners were awarded diplomas and valuable gifts.
