Dmitry Chalenko, Alikhan Orynbaev, and Bernard Kulteyrov, 10th-grade students at NIS Kokshetau, demonstrated a high level of preparation and a thorough scientific approach to environmental issues. They took second place in the regional science project competition “Aua, Su, Zher,” successfully defending their project against competitors from grades 9–11.
Their project, “ECODROP – a filter with a self-cleaning layer,” aims to address the issue of access to clean water using energy-efficient technologies. The key advantage of the EcoDrop+ system is its complete autonomy: the unit operates without external power sources or the use of harsh chemical reagents.
The design is based on a combination of biofiltration, photocatalytic, and ultraviolet disinfection. Thanks to the use of natural materials and solar energy, the filter not only effectively purifies water but also has the ability to self-clean.
