In-school SpeakUp program launched at NIS

18 February 2026 17:25

The SpeakUp intra-school prevention program was launched in NIS Atyrau, aimed at creating a safe, respectful and supportive school environment. A special feature of the program is the peer-to-peer education format.

The coaches are 9th and 11th grade students who have completed pre-training and education. Teen coaches will work with students in grades 7-8 to help them talk about difficult topics openly, safely, and in a language that is understandable to their peers.

The SpeakUp program is aimed not only at those who face bullying directly, but above all at student observers who witness bullying and can play a key role in changing the situation. During the lessons, teenagers learn to recognize forms of bullying, understand the consequences of violence, and develop empathy, responsibility, and constructive response skills.

SpeakUp is implemented in the logic of the KiVa international program and is a practical tool for introducing its values into the school community. Classes are held in an interactive format and include discussions, case studies, exercises and reflection. The SpeakUp program is a step towards a school where every student feels heard, protected, and meaningful.
