Central Asia: A sustainable future begins with a teacher!

01 November 2025 12:32

NIS biology teacher at Atyrau Tansholpan Abilova participated as an expert in the recent Central Asian Teachers' Summit in the city of Nukus in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

The forum was organized at the invitation of the Ministry of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan and, as part of the important slogan "a sustainable future begins with environmental education," brought together education ministers, leading educators and international experts.

Tansholpan Abilova's visit as an expert on the methodological manual "climate chest" was carried out with the support of the United Nations Development Program. It is worth noting that students' projects within the framework of our school's "Climate does not wait" initiative have repeatedly won prizes. Based on this experience, the Climate Chest tool was proposed as a ready-made resource for effectively introducing climate change into the educational process in Central Asian countries.

The first day of the summit was dedicated to getting to know each other and strengthening unity. Teachers from five Central Asian countries visited the tourist center, where they got acquainted with national traditions and cuisine. He also took part in the environmental quest Scavenger Hunt and presented cultural business cards of his country. Then, on the basis of the presidential school in Nukus, our teacher Tansholpan conducted an interactive master class "climate chest".

Here, teachers from Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan worked in international groups and performed common tasks. The active work of teachers has shown a great demand for ready-made and flexible solutions for environmental education. Following the discussion of the Aral Sea issue, the participants proposed an initiative to prepare and adopt a common memorandum of cooperation in the field of environmental education between the countries of Central Asia.

Congratulations to our young teacher on his successful work experience at the international level!
