History of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Aktobe
On February 25, 2013, the official opening of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Science and Mathematics took place in Aktobe. The event was attended by prominent officials, including the Akim of the region, Arkhimed Mukhambetov, the Akim of the city, Erkhan Omarov, Chairwoman of the Board of AEO "Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools" Kulyash Shamshidinova, and Secretary of the Regional Maslikhat, Saniya Kaldugulova. The symbolic key to the school was handed to Principal Saule Omirbekova by Rizabek Utegenov, the director of the construction company "Eurostroy-A."
The school, designed for 900 students, is located in the "Altyn Orda-2" district and covers an area of 21,000 square meters. The campus also includes a dormitory for 120 students, a spacious dining hall for 400 people, and 60 classrooms. The school is equipped with modern laboratories, three sports halls, a winter garden, and a conference hall. Students can also take advantage of a library containing 26,000 books in three languages and enjoy playing chess and national games during breaks.
For the creative and intellectual development of students, coworking spaces and laboratories have been established, where they engage in activities related to robotics, engineering, art, and choreography. The school also fosters initiatives such as QMovie, TEDx, NIS Radio, and projects focused on creating the Kazakh Wikipedia.
The school is renowned for its high academic standards and rigorous admission requirements. Each year, talented students receive the "Өркен" grant. Graduates successfully pass exams organized by the Cambridge International Examinations Board and go on to study at prestigious universities worldwide.
One of the school's key priorities is scientific research and participation in international Olympiads. Students from the Intellectual School in Aktobe have achieved significant success on the global stage. For example, Nurdaulet Taumergenov and Karen Dolmagambetov created a "glove speaker" and became participants in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. Other achievements include victories in international physics, geography, astronomy, and robotics Olympiads. Students regularly win medals at prestigious competitions such as the International Geography Olympiad (IGeO), the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), and many more.
The students of the school also have their own intellectual property. To date, one project has been patented, and 30 students have received certificates of copyright for their innovations. The school is also proud of its teachers, who hold 27 copyrights for their books and works, emphasizing the high level of scientific and educational activity at the institution.
The educational process at Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools is carried out according to their own "NIS-Programme," which is based on a comprehensive approach that takes into account both national and international trends in education development. The program is aimed at developing critical thinking, functional literacy, and in-depth mastery of natural sciences. A key element of the program is trilingual education, which equips students with the skills necessary for successful study at international universities.
