Teachers from NIS Aktobe Earn a Ticket to Europe for the Science on Stage Festival

24 September 2025 10:13

The project by teachers from the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Aktobe was recognized as one of the best at the national stage of the Science on Stage Kazakhstan competition. It earned the right to represent Kazakhstan at the international Science on Stage Europe festival, which will be held in Latvia.

Teachers Bauyrzhan Shokanov and Laura Mandibayeva presented their project “Meteo Go” — an early warning weather station. The project aims to create a mobile and accessible school-based weather station for monitoring and analyzing local weather conditions.

The station is equipped with a rumbo meter, anemometer, thermometer, hygrometer, and barometer — all sensor data are processed by an ESP32 controller and displayed on a web server. Students can monitor readings and record them in a specially designed digital observation sheet, allowing them to generate data charts and wind roses.

Following the national competition, Meteo Go was selected to represent Kazakhstan on the international stage. Very soon, the Aktobe teachers will present their work at a European forum, where they will exchange experiences with colleagues from across the world.

It’s worth noting that Science on Stage Europe is an international festival that brings together teachers from around the globe to share innovative teaching practices in science education. It provides science educators with an opportunity to showcase their creativity and exchange ideas on how to make lessons brighter, more engaging, and inspiring for students.
