KUYTAП: An Integrated Lesson — Harmony of Art and History

23 May 2025 09:38

At NIS Aktobe, a unique integrated open lesson was held for 8th-grade students. Titled "KUYTAП", the lesson combined elements of dombra (traditional Kazakh music), Kazakh language and literature, and history.

The main theme of the lesson was the golden era of Kazakh kuy (instrumental music) in the 19th century.
Students explored national cultural heritage through the art of küy and tried to understand the meaning of past centuries’ music by relying on historical and literary sources.

During the lesson:

  • D. Ramazan’s short story "Qos ishek" and excerpts from S. Zhunisov’s novel "Aqan Seri" were analyzed;

  • The creative legacy of kuyshi-composers (traditional dombra players) was studied;

  • Quiz-style tasks helped students develop logical thinking and memory skills.

Working in groups, students had the opportunity to express their thoughts freely, exchange ideas, and suggest new perspectives.

Such integrated lessons provide not only knowledge but also a deeper understanding of national art and cultural values — making them an important and enriching educational experience.
