Projects by 11th-grade students of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Aktau — “Nomad VISIT” (Merey Nurgazy and Zuriad Batyrbek) and “MediFLY” (Aruzhan Kazyeva, Asiya Gumarqyzy, Aiaru Agaydar) — received $750 in financial support at the “Ciena Solutions Challenge” competition in the United States.
The “Nomad VISIT” project is an application designed to provide tourists with the information they need based on their requests. Currently, the app contains information only about Kazakhstan. The project operates in three languages.
The “MediFLY” project is aimed at providing medical assistance using a quadcopter and artificial intelligence. The project offers informational support for Category III and IV emergency calls.
“Our students aim not just to create projects, but to implement them in real life. That is why they participate in various competitions and seek financial support. Our students applied online for this competition in February,” said Islam Zhomartuly, a history teacher of Kazakhstan and the supervisor of the “MediFLY” project.
The “Ciena Solutions Challenge” has been organized since 2021 at the initiative of Ciena and Digital Promise. To date, around 1,200 educators and students from 103 countries have identified real-world problems and proposed solutions. The main requirement is to align solutions with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This year, 62 teams from 23 countries participated in the competition.
“We plan to further develop our project and use the funds to purchase necessary equipment. In addition, we need expert support to properly build the financial model of our project,” said Aruzhan Kazyeva, a member of the “MediFLY” team.
