Ninth-grade students of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Aktau and the “EcoLeader” volunteer club held an “Eco-View” discussion platform on the topic “Radiation: Responsibility for Human Health and the Environment.” The meeting was organized as part of the Chemistry, Biology and Ecology Week and dedicated to Environmental Education Day.

The discussion, attended by ninth-grade students and chemistry teachers of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Aktau, also included active members of the public association “Mangystau Regional Chernobyl Union.”

The purpose of the event was to foster civic responsibility and patriotic education among the younger generation, as well as to honor and remember the heroes who participated in ликвидации последствий аварии на Чернобыльской АЭС.

One of the most tragic technological disasters in human history was discussed by Yuri Kerzhbaum, a Veteran of Labor of the USSR and Chairman of the Board of the public association “Mangystau Regional Chernobyl Union”, together with Chernobyl veterans Yusup Abdukhalilov, Ilgar Gezalov Jalal-ogly, Valentina Gaponova, and Abai Tazhiyev, who answered students’ questions and shared moving accounts of their experiences.

It is worth noting that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. Around 600,000 people worldwide took part in eliminating the consequences of the largest technological catastrophe. From Kazakhstan alone, approximately 32,000 people were sent.

“Many people suffered from the effects of radiation. People went to the radioactive contamination zone both as part of compulsory mobilization, fulfilling state orders, and voluntarily, driven by a sense of duty and the call of their hearts. This was a great act of courage,” the meeting participants noted.

One of the core values of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Aktau is Kazakhstani patriotism and civic responsibility. To instill these values in students, educational events of great moral significance are regularly organized.
