NIS Aktau Teachers’ Article Published in a Scopus-Indexed Journal

14 April 2026 15:03

A scientific article authored by teachers of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Aktau has been published in an international journal indexed in the Scopus database.

The authors of the study are biology teacher Gulzhan Nusipzhanova and chemistry teacher, Mohamed Fatthi Gomaa Elshikh The paper is devoted to the topic: "Bridging the AI divide in high school STEM education in developing countries to advance equity and innovation"

The publication is particularly significant due to the international composition of the research team. In addition to the teachers of the Intellectual School, the article was co-authored by Aigul Balgaliyeva and Elvira Sagyndykova, faculty members of Yessenov University, as well as colleagues from the United States — William Olayifa and Emmanuel Inegbedion.

The article examines the role of artificial intelligence in advancing STEM education for upper secondary school students in developing countries, particularly in African and Asian nations. The authors emphasize that a substantial gap still exists between developed and developing countries in the use of AI technologies within educational environments.

The study notes that in developed countries, artificial intelligence has already been actively integrated into educational programs. Today, virtual laboratories, intelligent learning platforms, and personalized learning systems are widely used.

Special attention is given to the opportunities for applying AI in the teaching of biology and chemistry. Key areas include:

  • conducting practical and laboratory work in digital formats;

  • personalizing learning according to each student’s level of preparation;

  • developing skills in scientific data analysis and research activities;

  • translating educational materials into local languages;

  • expanding access to education for students with special educational needs.

According to Gulzhan Nusipzhanova, the research began in early 2025 and included an extensive review of scientific literature, an analysis of international experience, and a synthesis of the authors’ pedagogical practices in teaching STEM disciplines and using digital technologies in education.

It is worth noting that scientific articles by two other teachers of the school had previously also been included in the Scopus database, which confirms the strong research potential of the NIS Aktau teaching staff.
