A mathematics teacher at the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Aktau, Kadyrbek Dauletov, together with 9th-grade students Aisana Zhangaliyeva and Anel Tasmagambetova, developed a scientific research project titled “Solar Energy Potential in Mangystau: How Much Energy Are We Losing?”, which has received copyright protection.
The main proposal of the project is to supply part of the electricity used in educational institutions in the region by installing solar panels, thereby saving electrical energy. The students have been working on this project since September and are currently calculating its economic efficiency.
According to the project supervisor, Kadyrbek Sansyzbayuly, the Mangystau region is one of the areas with high solar radiation. In addition, solar panels are already installed on the territory of the intellectual school. Based on their performance, the team proposes installing similar panels in general education schools. The project is currently developing in several directions.
According to the authors, the key task at this stage is to calculate the amount of funding required from the state budget before installing solar panels in school territories, as well as to determine the payback period and long-term feasibility. The young mathematicians are currently working on evaluating the project’s economic efficiency.
Aisana Zhangaliyeva noted that in order to implement such a project in educational institutions, it is first necessary to determine its economic viability. She also pointed out that the solar panels installed in their school do not store accumulated energy. During their research, the team identified solar panels with energy storage capabilities and analyzed their advantages and characteristics. The latest models are expected to be highly efficient for schools and can generate electricity for up to 25 years.
In the future, the young researchers plan to experimentally install solar panels in one of the general education schools and evaluate the results. If the study proves successful, they intend to present a concrete proposal to the relevant authorities.
It is worth noting that in 2019, 320 solar panels were installed at the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Aktau. As a result, the institution saves 15–20% of its electricity consumption.
