NIS students developed an innovative solution for people with speech disorders

13 December 2024 12:25

A team of students from the Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Physics and Mathematics in Almaty has created a mobile application capable of converting impaired speech (caused by conditions such as dysarthria, cerebral palsy, or stroke) into normalized and understandable speech for others.

The solution is based on artificial intelligence algorithms using the OpenAI Whisper model. The application, developed on the Flutter platform, sends requests to a trained model that converts impaired speech into text. The text is then voiced using text-to-speech technology. This approach opens new possibilities for people with speech disorders and aids their social adaptation.

The project demonstrates a deep understanding of modern technologies and reflects our students' drive to create products that solve pressing social issues.

The team successfully presented their project at the Decentrathon 2.0 National Hackathon, held on October 18-19 at Satbayev University, with over 1,000 participants from 17 regions of Kazakhstan. The team took second place in the "Artificial Intelligence" category and was awarded a cash prize of 700,000 KZT.

Team members: • Sandykbayev Adil • Sağın Jumadildayev • Dastan Özgeldi

The achievement of our students is the result of their hard work, knowledge, and desire for self-improvement. We express our gratitude to the team for their contribution to the development of technology and wish them continued success and new victories!
