WRO–2024: «Earth's Allies»

The Republican stage of the International Robotics Olympiad, World Robot Olympiad, has started in Almaty today. At the Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Physics and Mathematics in Almaty, 272 participants who were selected at the regional stage will compete for two days in categories such as RoboMission, Future Innovators, RoboSports, and Future Engineers. Notably, this year more than half of the participants are from secondary schools, including 16 teams consisting of students from rural areas.

The theme of this year's championship is «Earth's Allies». In the RoboMission and RoboSports categories, students assemble robots that can perform tasks in a special arena and independently participate in sports competitions. In the Future Engineers category, participants need to develop a robotic vehicle that will autonomously navigate a landfill. In the Future Innovators category, inventors must develop robot models that will help people live in harmony with nature, protect against destructive natural phenomena, and create conditions for living in places with harsh climates.

Anuar Zhangozin, Chairman of the Board of AEO «Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools,» noted at the opening ceremony that young roboticists have a special mission:

«This year's topic is very relevant. Each of us is obliged to protect the environment and empathize with nature. However, environmental problems are worsening every year, and new technologies and innovative approaches are required to solve them. Therefore, I hope that the projects presented at the championship will contribute to the harmonious coexistence of nature and humanity. The solution to these problems is in the hands of young people like you».

It is worth noting that AEO Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools has been the national organizer of the International Robotics Olympiad, World Robot Olympiad, in Kazakhstan since 2014. Over the past 10 years, NIS has made a significant contribution to the development of robotics in the country and to the achievements of domestic teams at the international level.

The results of the Republican stage will be announced on August 27, 2024. The best participants will earn a spot in the world stage of the WRO Olympiad, which is scheduled to take place from November 28 to November 30 in Izmir, Turkey.
