Today, on January 31, 2020, the three-week internship of MIT students Gabriel Kammer and Rujul Gandhi ended.
With their participation, several events were held at the school: elective courses on subjects, consultations on research projects, trainings on writing motivational letters for Universities, joint lessons with teachers. One of the main ones was holding the contest “The best STEAM idea” among shanyraks of the school.
The competition was organized to develop students’ research skills and foster respect for the world around them as part of the implementation of the 12th sustainable development goal “Responsible consumption and production”.
The main requirement was to create a prototype of a new product through the recycling of plastic and paper waste from the school on the basis of the school’s STEAM laboratory. The jury included international and local teachers, as well as MIT students Gabriel Kammer and Rujul Gandhi.
Shanyraks of the school presented 18 ideas for recycling. Among them were toys for children, fountains, greenhouses, flower pots, furniture, paving slabs, and even rockets.
The next stage will be the implementation of projects in the school’s STEAM laboratory. It is also expected that the best ideas will take part in Startup and scientific competitions.
The winners of “The best STEAM idea” were the projects of shanyraks “Daryn” – 1st place, “Baiterek” – 2nd place and “Barys” – 3rd place.
