The library of the Intellectual school of Taraz hosted the festival of “edible books”. On this day, students of the school prepared and presented sweet copies of famous literary works.
The creative festival was held in the framework of the project “100 books recommended for reading by students of Nazarbayev Intellectual schools” and covered more than 50 students of the school.
The children created their masterpieces of confectionery art based on such books as “Alice in Wonderland”, “451 degrees Fahrenheit”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “20,000 leagues underwater”.
The members of the jury, which included the school’s chef and language teachers, evaluated the cake books in such categories as “Art-book”, “Оriginal book”, “Best actors” and “Delicious”.
The participants did not limit themselves to making a sweet cake, but also made a beautiful presentation and showed small theatrical performances of the works. The festival continued with a mass tea party in the school cafeteria.
The festival of “edible books” is a very unusual holiday that is celebrated all over the world. The first such event was organized in 2000 by Judith A. Hoffberg and Beatrice Coron, who came up with it to celebrate the birthday of the French Gastronome Jean Antelme Brillat-Savarin, known for his book “The Physiology of taste: a witty meditation on food”.
