Nazarbayev Intellectual school in Taraz is implementing an international project to strengthen the relationship between parents and their teenage children “Strong family”.

For seven weeks school’s certified coachs – psychologist Nurbanu Baytelieva and curator Saya Piskentbaeva spent family session hours with 20 students and their parents.

At the beginning of each class, parents and children were taught separately, discussing their specific problems and developing appropriate skills. Then they performed joint tasks, which were carried out in an interactive entertaining form using games and discussions.

In the course of the training, parents learned to build trust with children and to understand them better, got acquainted with such skills of behavior in the family as the establishment of rules of behavior for children, supervision and management of children, as well as discipline, and adolescents – to cope with stress and resist negative influence.

– I participate in such training for the first time. I learned a lot of new and useful things. I used to think I knew everything about raising a child. It turned out that there were some omissions. For example, after the course, I began to talk more with my son, dropping my business. Before, I did it in parallel with other things, – admitted one of the parents Rimma Anabekova.

Program coach Nurbanu Baytelieva, said that thanks to the project, the interest of parents to educate children and their mental development has increased significantly. They became more interested in the problems of their children and enthusiastically participate in their school life.

– Since I am a mother of four children, I think a lot about the proper upbringing of the child. Visiting the training “Strong family”, I realized the most important thing – is to be friends with the child. Do not forget that the child needs to put restrictions at certain moments. In the house we began to organize family meetings and make plans. I think that this is a very effective method, – says the mother of 7-grader Aizhan Zhamankulova.

The Strong family program was created by the School of health and social welfare of the University of Great Britain Oxford Brooks. It is intended for families with children and adolescents aged 10 to 14 years. Today “Strong family” is introduced and approved in more than 35 countries of the world.

Research conducted to study the effectiveness of the “Strong family” program has shown that before and after the trainings, there have been noticeable positive changes in the behavior of both parents and their children.
